The Determinants of Sub-standard Housing: Focusing on the Characters of the Districts

Abstract
This study examined the determinants of sub-standard housing using the 2014 fact-finding survey of housing. The housing is located in the districts and affected by the characters of the districts. So, this study identified the effects of characters of districts as well as the effects of characters of family, taking advantage of HGLM(Hierarchical General Linear Model). The results of this study showed that male householder, higher educational level, non-public transfer recipient, non-disable householder, the ownership of housing are the factors that decreased the odds of sub-standard housing and the more children are the factors that increased the odds of sub-standard housing. And the more public housing in the districts decreased significantly the odds of sub-standard housing. There is positive relation between higher rent of districts and the odds of sub-standard housing Through this study, It is known the characteristics of the households which are at risk of households below minimum housing standards(sub-standard housing). Best of all, it is secured basis that the policy of public housing should be expanded. Also, this study offered the implications for policy of tenant protection and the housing support for public transfer recipient.
